Artists > A-E

David Villalobos, born in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica, and currently residing in Guacimal Puntarenas CR. David started to show his talent when he was very young, attending a very humble school in Guacimal, and secondary at Liceo de Chomes Puntarenas.

David expanded his knowledge of sculpture and technique working with Henry Villalobos and Tony Jimenez, from whom he learned the importance of finding his own style to exhibit his artistic language. With his first collective exposition in Puntarenas, 2007, where his work is being appreciated by a the local public.

In 2009 he launched an individual exposition as an itinerant one called “Naturaleza procreadora” “Bearing Nature” and it was presented in different parts of Costa Rica, including the capital city of San José. With this exhibit, David shows a gratitude for those who have the power of giving life: women and plants, so every piece, in a different way, speaks about the importance of the circle of existing.

In 2010 he presented “INSTANTS” another individual exposition, at The National Center of Culture in San José. With 10 medium big formats wooden sculptures that dialogue about the time and life, and the most important characteristics were the movement and the shapes in abstracts.

David Villalobos is a lover of the human forms, face and body. He express them easily in the wood, this is what keeps him with an inspiration to do his art. The materials he uses are woods already in waste and decomposition of nature. He believes that cutting trees for art is a sacrilege, and likes to protect the forest and rivers. This is very important, so that he does his works with a peaceful order and harmony with the nature around. David expresses curves and lines in his sculptures, which means that life itself it is not flat or constant -- it moves and turns undetectable, and so are his expressions.

"Unremoto Volar," Gauchipelin Raton, by David Villalobos
